My thesis, entitled ‘Germline engineering: the ethics of making the world a different place; for better or worse?’, is about the ethical differences between genetic engineering in germline cells and genetic engineering on somatic cells. I discuss the ethical implications on the basis of three topics: consent, genetic despotism and irreversibility. The red line in my thesis is the argumentation of John Harris in his book ‘Enhancing Evolution’. The purpose of this thesis is to argue that genetic enhancement in the basis is not bad or something we should be afraid of.
