Nietzsche and Adorno on pop music
This thesis aims to offer an alternative approach to pop music to one created by Theodor Adorno. I intend to delineate the shortcomings of the Adornian Culture Industry perspective in relation to the contemporary pop music. To create this alternative approach, I propose to apply the Dionysian aspect of art conceptualised by Friedrich Nietzsche. The possible connection between the Culture Industry and the Dionysian is built upon collective experience, emotional impact (ecstatic states), and bodily sensations (danceability, sex appeal). This thesis, furthermore, seeks to demonstrate the importance of individual experience when discussing the value of specific genre or art pieces.
