The thesis researches the condition of Quality Management in Greek public hospitals and the reasons behind the uncoordinated and lacking efforts to implementing it. The concept of quality management as a managerial tool is presented in the theory, followed with a more sociological approach using the theories of clinical governance, patient safety, accountability and organizational change. The method of research used, was qualitative interviews that helped identifying the problems and categorize them. The results showed that there are multiple factors for a poor implementation of quality management, that create a vicious cycle of adverse working conditions, discomfort and difficulties faced in the working environment with no signs or realistic goals of quality improvement and
