In terms of globalization, cities in the world now strongly compete to attract foreign direct investment. There is no more territorial boundaries in the global market and this condition has encouraged cities to create better business atmosphere and be more competitive than others. Indonesia, as a country, unfortunately shows poor performance in competitiveness compared to other South East Asian Nations member such as Malaysia and Singapore. The aim of this research is to understand the role and power of each big city in Indonesia in terms of attracting foreign direct investment. By assessing each role and power it is expected that the government could formulate better policies to improve each cities’ competitiveness based on its potential and strength.
