This study pertains to the experiences of an internally displaced population in Northeast Nigeria, from the perspective of basic and human needs of the IDPs, the role of gender and the government policies to ameliorate the sufferings of the IDPs. In the past, there have not been many efforts to examine the policies of the Nigerian government for the displaced and the needs of victims; thus this research hopes to contribute in this direction. The research uses the observation-participation method and interviews to examine the experiences of IDPs in the self-coordinating Durumi camps in Abuja, Nigeria.
