In search of explaining the resistance within organisations during organizational change towards corporate sustainability, this study focusses on six determinants (relating to four characteristics, namely project, psychological, social and context) derived from the Escalation of Commitment literature as an interpretive framework. Based on interviews conducted in April 2015 with Dutch experts and consultants in the sustainability field, this study shows that these six determinants are applicable to both the sustainability and the organisational change research field. Furthermore, this study suggests adding three determinants to the Escalation of Commitment, especially in light of organisational change. Finally, this study shows for all of the nine determinants the mechanisms of influence in the form of resistance, enabling factor and assistance on organisational change towards corporate sustainability. These insights might be valuable for policy makers to face current social challenges, and everyone related to organizational change towards corporate sustainability.
