This study examines the effect of gender on pension behavior. The focus lies on how people predict their pension and also about how much they know about their pension. The main question is stated as: Does gender have an influence on pension behavior in The Netherlands? The study is based on the period after the financial crisis. The sample which is used consists out of 9,850 respondents of the Dutch Household Survey between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2015. In line with the expectations, the results show a significant result that men predict their future pension higher than women. In addition this study shows that women know more about their pension. Due to this finding there is an opportunity that, assuming that pension knowledge leads to better pension estimation, men are overestimating their pension in comparison to women. This research is filling a gap in existing literature, to my knowledge no previous research has be done regarding this subject.
