An exploration into conceptions of feminist subjectivity and collectivity
In this thesis, I set out to better understand the complex position of feminists today in an attempt to formulate a theoretical framework which encompasses the broad variety of aspects which complicate the task of women’s emancipation. I provided an analysis of the role of identity politics and intersectionality using the debate regarding postmodernism and feminism, which is nicely elucidated in Feminist Contentions, as my theoretical background. Ultimately, I put forward Sartre’s theory of Seriality as an alternative way of conceptualizing women’s position in society. I illustrated the relevance of this theory with an analysis of the 2019 movie: “The Assistant”, which relates to the recent #MeToo movement.
