In front of you lays the Master thesis that brings me to the end of my study in Economics and Business Economics in the direction of Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Organization Economics, at the Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam. I have chosen this subject, because I have always been interested in R&D and innovation. My interests in these subjects come from the fact that I believe, that innovation is one of the largest drivers of economic growth and therefore of crucial mportance for corporations and the economy as a whole. Because of the important role of innovation I am interested in ways to improve innovativeness and how to stimulate and implement this in firms. In this thesis I will investigate the influence of collaborations among firms on their innovative performance in the research stage. This research examines the influence of Research Joint ventures on the innovative performance of the parent firm. The largest bottleneck for me during this research was the fact that all my empirical tests turned out to be insignificant. Because of this I have learned that not getting results is also a result.
