This paper looks into the factors that have influenced Bulgaria’s successful accession to NATO in 2003. Through a complex framework based on the international relations theories I evaluate three groups of factors – domestic, regional and global – and see how each of them influences the accession process. The target of the research is to see if one of these groups has had a leading role and if others were irrelevant to the process. After a thorough research the results show that each group has been significant to Bulgaria in its quest towards NATO membership.
