Abstract Although the importance of culturally sensitive mental health care is widely acknowledged, little is known about the attitudes of future mental health care professionals about this topic. The main purpose of this research was therefore to fill this knowledge gap. As such this research explored the attitudes of Moroccan psychology students by means of semi-structured interviews. It focused on possible approaches to culturally sensitive mental health care in Morocco, with special attention to stigma reduction, the integration of traditional and modern psychological practices and the future of mental health care in Morocco. Results indicated that students, after initial hesitation, appeared to be familiar with cultural sensitivity in their surroundings. Respondents reported experiences with stigma, involving family, society, education and government funding. Religion played a central role in respondents’ narratives, although distinctions between religion and superstition varied. Mixed thoughts were found about the possibility to integrate traditional healing practices with modern mental health care. All respondents envisioned an active contribution to a more inclusive mental health system. In conclusion Moroccan psychology students underlined the importance of culturally sensitive mental health care but also expressed their concerns. Improving education, accessibility and governmental support remain crucial for implementing mental health care that aligns with the cultural realities of Morocco. Suggestions for future research will be discussed.
