A Comparison of Co2 Emissions of Kenyan, Dutch and Spanish Tomatoes
Abstract In light of current debates on global climate change, this paper investigates what is the best consumer choice of tomatoes in terms of Co2 emissions. This was done through a comparison of Co2 emissions caused by tomatoes sourced in the Netherlands, Spain and Kenya for consumption in the Dutch consumer market. The emissions caused by production and transport were estimated through existing estimates of energy use and emission factors. From the results obtained, some policy recommendations were given by the author.
