Despite several decades' efforts of agricultural extension services in Ethiopia, rural livelihoods are hardly changed. Moreover, today it is confronted with new challenges as a result of rapid national and global changes. Hence, the role of the conventional agricultural extension is questionable in its ability to support the current rural livelihoods development. In this regard, this paper discuss past extension efforts and the need to revitalize the extension service in Ethiopia in accordance with new developments that influence rural envirorunent.
