Abstract This paper aims to put together a set of criteria a science park has to fulfil in order to be successful in terms of adding to the development of the knowledge-based economy in a region. A definition of a science park as well as a list of eleven criteria for success a science park would have to meet is presented by comparing and combining literature. The criteria are applied to the case of Science Port Holland. This case study shows that the supply of public information on this project is limited and that the available information contains several contradictions.
