Social Capital, Poverty and Women's Participation: The case of the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia

This research paper is based on a study of the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia (hence forth SDFN), a network of housing saving schemes which aims to improve the living conditions of low-income people living in shacks or rented rooms and those without' any accommodation, and simultaneously to promote women's participation. SDFN was formed in October 1998 consisting of 30 housing groups that had been formed in Namibia since the late eighties.
